Red signifies Danger, cautioning the student to exercise control, and warning the opponent to stay away

Black: Opposite to white, therefore signifying maturity and proficiency in TaekwonDo.  It is also a symbol of the wearer’s imperviousness to darkness and fear.

Pre-Arranged Sparring

3 step sparring (Sambo Matsogi) 1 – 6

1 step sparring (Ilbo Matsogi)

Free Sparring (Jayoo Matsogi)

You will be expected to spar with other students, demonstrating a variety of attacking, defensive and counter- attacking techniques and combinations, using an appropriate level of contact.

Breaking

You will be asked to break a single breaking-board with any hand technique of your choice (not elbow strike) and any kick of your choice (not jumping). Perform the same technique using both sides.

Pad Work/Fitness

You may be asked to perform various techniques using focus pads or kick-shields, and a short fitness ‘spirit test’. Do your best and keep pushing until the end. This is a demonstration of Indomitable Spirit – one of the Tenets of TaekwonDo.

Theory Test

When you are ready, take your theory test here. New theory terms are on this page, but the test may include terminology from previous gradings. You will need to complete the test, scoring 70% in order to pass your grading; you can take the test as many times as you like. Once you have passed, the results will be saved to your student record.

Meaning: Hwa-Rang is named after the Hwa Rang youth group that originated in the Silla dynasty in the early 7th century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division commanded by General Choi in 1953 where TaekwonDo was developed into maturity
